State of Idaho employees are encouraged to complete the Supervisory Academy with the Division of Human Resources to fulfill the pre-requisite requirement for CPM. Should the Supervisory Academy not be a practical option, applicants can substitute a selection from one of the categories below. Applicants from other Idaho government entities may fulfill the pre-requisite requirement by using criteria from any one of the main categories below (click on a category to expand/close it):

>Supervision/Management Training

A minimum of 30 hours of supervision or management training within the past five (5) years which included:

  • Role of Supervision/Management
  • Leadership Styles
  • Self Management – managing time, stress, and emotions; having organizational integrity
  • Communication – defining styles; listening; giving direction; working with generational differences
  • Performance Management – hiring; setting expectations; giving feedback; appraising performance; disciplining; documenting
  • Motivation Techniques
  • Conflict Resolution – resolving employee problems
  • EEO
  • Respectful Workplace
  • Customer Service
This category may be met by completing:

>Supervision/Management Experience

A minimum of two (2) years as a supervisor or manager which required performing the functions of performance management.

>Education and Other Related Training

A related higher education degree within the past fifteen (15) years such as:

  1. Business Administration
  2. Management
  3. Human Resources
  4. Public Administration


  • Related training completed within the last 5 years which can be proven as preparation for the CPM program.
